Is FINISHED!!! Wel… ALMOST finished!!! Lol just need to do a little more polishing on the last song. But those changes will be minor, so for all intents and purposes I’d like to celebrate Halloween by considering it finished. 🙂 You can hear the whole thing here: http://snd.sc/YkK0GZ

Now let’s get this sucker on stage!!! Who wants to premiere it??
    P.S. Happy Halloween!!!

So, so close to being finished with the music…

The premise is that dead pop stars are coming back from the dead. Here is my best Michael Jackson impersonation (apologies to the King of Pop):

  • Death Note: the Musical!

    Posted by gmadmin   |   October 21, 2012

Watched the first couple episodes of an anime series called Death Note last night. I don’t know what makes me a bigger nerd: watching anime or thinking “this could be adapted into a musical” as I watch it.

No, that’s a lie; I do know which one makes me a bigger nerd lol. Anyway it’s actually a pretty interesting show! You can watch the first episode of Death Note on Youtube. (It has subtitles. The version I watched was dubbed in English.)

  • Gee, Officer Krupke…

    Posted by gmadmin   |   October 7, 2012

So I just saw West Side Story for the first time. Yeah yeah, I know, I know… Anyway, great musical movie. Loved the dancing. The music was hit or miss with me… I love the Maria theme and I especially Mambo number, but some of the numbers fell kind of flat with me. I think some of it had to do with the fact that I thought the lead guy was a little weird… There was something not quite right about his voice. Also, it amazes me that the lyrics are all by the same guy. Some of it is painfully cheesy, and some of it is pure (Sondheim) genius. I think this Officer Krupke song has some of the most clever lyrics I’ve ever heard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq28qCklEHc

Which reminds me of one of the funniest bits ever from Curb Your Enthusiasm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkoXjnAm88s

  • Scene Songs

I’ve seen Sweeney Todd twice on stage and I’ve seen the movie, but you can always learn new things from a masterpiece. Craig Bohmler opened my eyes to the genius of this “scene song” in which so much information is communicated. I need to study this!

Also, isn’t this still the coolest poster art ever?http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2a/SweeneyToddLogo.jpg

  • Going it Alone

    Posted by gmadmin   |   October 5, 2012

I’ve always tried to forge my own path and go it alone. I didn’t study writing or theatre in college, and I’ve never been a part of any formal theatre development program. Rather than move to a major theatre market or submit to established publishers, I opted to stay in Phoenix and do things my way, carving out my own niche, figuring out a new way to get from A to B. In some ways that approach has served me well, but it left a lot of holes in my game that will keep me from getting to the next level. At some point you need guidance or you will spend all your energy trying to reinvent the wheel. You need encouragement and validation, too, if you plan to survive for the long-haul. You need someone who is further along than you to tell you: “I believe in you, kid, so I want to pass my learning along to you.” I didn’t realize how badly I needed that until I got it.
