  • Cast Size: Professional and Amateur Theatres

    Posted by gmadmin   |   September 24, 2012

The other day I got a letter back from a theatre where I had submitted “It’s a Wonderful Life.” They said that while the show was a good fit for their theatre, they can’t produce musicals with casts larger than five people. High schools and community theatres, on the other hand, typically want gigantic casts so that lots of people can participate. It really illustrates how playwrights have to choose which market they want to serve: professional theatres that need small casts, or amateur and school theatres that need big casts. (Go Musicals primarily serves the latter.)

  • Flip Phone Shame

    Posted by gmadmin   |   September 13, 2012

Ok, I still have a flip phone. To be fair, it is every bit as modern as the phones you see on The Wire or the early seasons of Breaking Bad, but for some reason people don’t see it that way. I can’t help feeling embarrassed to be seen talking on the thing.

The great thing about my phone is that I don’t have to worry about it. Nobody is ever going to steal it. If I break it (and I have broken many), I can just get a new one off of Craigslist. Unlike almost every iPhone I have seen, it doesn’t have a cracked screen. But when Google and Bing both cancelled their free 411 services, it got to be a little embarrassing having to call my dad to have him look up an address.

I held out against getting a laptop for years, arguing that it is far easier to work on a desktop PC and I do 90% of my computing at my desk anyway. When I finally got a laptop (for cheap off of Craigslist, like a boss) it transformed my life. Now instead of spending my whole day at my desk staring at my computer screen, I spend all day on the couch staring at my computer screen! Oh, and now I can go to my parents and stare at my screen, too.

Now I am one of the few holdouts from the flip phone era. Partly I do it because I don’t want to pay for a data plan. Partly I do it because I don’t want to learn how to use a new gadget. Partly I do it because I just haven’t fallen in love with a phone yet. Until now. Forget the iPhone 5. Sign me up for the Lumia 920!!! The first WP8 phone on Nokia literally makes me salivate. Gorilla Glass 2, NFC, inductive charging, pureview camera with carl zeiss lens and optimal image stabilization, the gorgeous WP8 operating system… I can’t wait!!!

    Posted by gmadmin   |   September 2, 2012

At long last, the music for It’s a Wonderful Life is FINISHED!!! And I’m super proud of it. You can listen to the whole thing here: http://soundcloud.com/gomusicals/sets/its-a-wonderful-life-the-1
Currently we’re cranking away at Hipster and Night of the Living Dead. Stay tuned!

P.S. Breaking Bad is amazing. Still not as good as The Wire, but amazing nonetheless!
